Event description

Description

In Japanese, Boro refers to rags; traditionally, items like quilts, clothes, futon covers etc. weren’t thrown away when they were worn out or torn - they were patched over and over again until sometimes the item was nothing but a rag, but actually a beautiful item was the result.
All materials are provided to make 2 coasters, including pre-cut fabric for the front and the back of the coasters as well as little fabric pieces and sashiko thread and needles to stitch patches on top to imitate a beautiful piece of boro. You may also wish to bring little swatches for patches, making your coasters distinctly you. If you haven't embroidered before, you may want to get a library book to see blanket and running stitch, which is typically what we'll be using, but it’s not necessary as I’ll show you how to do the stitches, and you will be able to refer to the printout. You will go home with a pair of coasters, or a partially completed set, sashiko thread and needles, a needle threader and rubber needle puller as well as a printout for how to do the stitches. If you've embroidered in the past, you may get further along, but it's not nnecessary. It'll be fun to see all the newly created coasters in one setting.
