Event Details

During the semi-annual board meeting held on November 5, 2008, the Trustees unanimously ratified the creation of the Hand and Dove Award. Then, Chairman of the Development Committee, Trevor Carpenter, and his committee commissioned an award that would represent the highest honor that the SCS Trustees would bestow upon someone. The annual Hand and Dove Banquet is an award ceremony as well as a scholarship fundraising event. The event is an opportunity to celebrate what God is doing and join with SCS in providing excellent theological education in South Texas.

South Texas School of Christian Studies is pleased to announce that the recipients of the 2017 Hand and Dove lifetime achievement award are Vanessa and Fred Braselton of Braselton Homes, Inc., a locally owned Christian family business that spans three generations.

Fred Braselton’s father, Guy Braselton, came to Corpus Christi in 1945 to build a children’s home that had been destroyed in a fire and began building homes in Corpus Christi ever since. After quarterbacking for Georgia Tech’s football team, Fred returned to Corpus Christi and worked for Prescon, another family owned commercial construction company, for 12 years before starting Braselton Homes in 1973. Working alongside his wife Vanessa who is an accomplished designer and decorator, Fred expanded the family business that now includes not only building homes, but developing neighborhoods with the help of his son Bart who joined the business in 1988. Though now semi-retired, Fred continues to be involved and attributes their success to hard work, planning, and prayer. A faithful member at Yorktown Baptist Church, Fred is a successful business leader in South Texas who is known for his Christian faith and charitable giving.
