Hammer-In May 13, 2017
Sat, May 13, 2017, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM EDT
Blacksmiths and metalworkers from Vermont and beyond gather at the Blacksmithing Arts Center to exchange information and compare work. Featured instructors help participants expand their knowledge and skills to create utilitarian and decorative objects.
We are delighted to have Robert Bordeaux as featured demonstrator for the 2017 LCMM Hammer-In!
Robert Bordeaux has been an orthopedic nurse for the last 40 years. This is his full time job but for the last 20 plus years he has been learning the art of Bladesmithing/Blacksmithing during his spare time. Robert is self-taught for the most part and over the years has picked up a fair amount of knowledge about forging and heat treatment of different steels. With the internet came the ability to expand that knowledge and pick up information from some of the best knife makers in the world and how they do things. To date he has knives all over the US and a few in Canada. Early on he did a fair amount of Blacksmithing with one of his projects being a weathervane for The Vermont Teddy Bear company
At present during the winter months he attends gun shows where he sells the knives he makes and when not doing a gun show he teaches basic Bladesmithing from his shop in Waterbury Ctr year round and has also been doing classes during the summer at the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum. Most of his spare time these days is focused on knife making and classes and gets to work on his knives whenever there is a spare minute or two.
