Hamlet (Module B) HSC English 2-Day Workshop
Event Information
Description
The Hamlet workshop is an intensive, results-driven HSC crash-course held over two half-days (2pm-6pm on the 28th and 29th of April) that covers ALL Module B requirements in order to help you achieve your best possible mark. The workshop will be taking students from start to finish through the key elements of William Shakespeare's play Hamlet, the contextual influences that shape meaning within the text and the step-by-step process of essay writing for this particular module. The workshop will be framed from the student's perspective: How should I structure my essay and organise my ideas? How do I answer any question on the day? How do I address all the requirements of the rubric in less than 1000 words? What are some effective sentence structures? What kind of evidence should I use? How much should I talk about context? What does a state-rank essay look like?
Structure
We structure the workshop in a way that takes students step by step through each section of the paper, ensuring they have all the skills, content and structures that would be typical of a high band-6 response in English. The workshop has a heavy focus on practical exercises, all of which are 100% relevant to the final drafts that students will learn for the HSC. Finally, Ignite prides itself on its lessons in question adaptation, weaving exercises and examples throughout the day that relate to adapting to different types of questions and stimuli.
DAY 1
- Rubric breakdown
- Contextual influences
- Act-by-Act analysis, with emphasis on soliloquies
DAY 2
- Form in Hamlet
- Essay structure and skills
- Question adaptation skills and thesis practice
EVERYTHING we teach will be coming from the frame of: How would you actually use this in an essay? In what parts of the essay would this be relevant? What would this actually look like in a sentence?
Practical. Practical. Practical.
Please do not miss out on this rare opportunity to drastically improve the quality of your writing!
Resources
In case any ideas, techniques or examples are not noted down by students on the day, we will also be providing resource booklets (valued at $50) which provide a complete analysis of Hamlet and a robust essay structure which can be applied to any question on the day.
