Hamilton: How the Musical Remixes American History
Event Information
Description
As “Hamilton”-mania takes over Orlando, the Orlando Museum of Art will host a program exploring the history portrayed in the smash-hit Broadway musical.
“Hamilton: How the Musical Remixes American History” will take place at 1:30 p.m. February 3 in the Museum’s SunTrust Auditorium. Visiting historian Richard Bell will dissect Lin-Manuel Miranda’s wildly popular musical — being staged at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts from January 22 - February 10 — to reveal what “Hamilton’s” success tells us about the marriage of history and show biz. Program recommended for ages 14 and up due to adult themes and strong language.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Bell, a tenured professor in the University of Maryland’s history department, will showcase what the popular production gets right — and wrong — about Alexander Hamilton, the American Revolution and the birth of the United States, and why it all matters.
