Monique Franklin (Verbal Oasis), is an activist, poet, performer, scientist, and mother from Rainier Valley, Seattle. She has been referred to as “The unofficial poet laureate of South Seattle,” “The Billie Holiday of Spoken Word,” as well as “the Verbal Manifestation of Nina Simone’s Soul” and "and “High Priestess of prose, poetry and the art of story telling". Monique is a 10+ year member of African American Writer’s Alliance and has self-published two volumes of poetry entitled Acoustic Accolades and Erotic Annals of a Poet. She has released three spoken word albums Acoustic Accolades Volume 1, Hot Summer Nights and Mama'z Muezz all are available on soundcloud. She currently co-host and co-produces Afrodisiac Erotic Poetry Show celebrating the diversity and sexuality of people of color. Her poetry gives voice to social issues, human relationships, tributes to her many influences, and self-discovery. As a performer you can find her poetry commingling with musicians, vocalist and dancers. The subject matter of her poetry stems from the rich spectrum of her life experiences. This woman is a creative soul.

OLLELLA

(oh-lel-uh) is the singer-songwriter, cellist, vocalist, and occasional mandolinist Ellie Barber.

Ellie’s career as a musician started young, when she sang before she could talk. Trained as a classical cellist, she blends her technical background with authoritative vocals, live-looping, and improvisation.

Her playing has been featured on radio stations, in films screened at film festivals (Sundance, Aspen, CEFF), and on recordings with other artists, including Grammy-winning artist Peter Kater. She's drawn to music because it unlocks a particularly organic flavor of humanity – one that fits the type of world she believes in.

BRITTANY ALLYSON --

Intuitive, Dynamic and Saucy, American singer/songwriter and guitarist Brittany Allyson is an award-winning multidisciplinary performer with a voice to silence the chaos and pull you into the present moment. Inspired by the playful, golden tones of Ella Fitzgerald and Barbra Streisand and influenced the nuanced storytelling of Joni Mitchell, Sade, Billy Joel, Maxwell, Jason Mraz and many others, Brittany bares her soul with each note sung and intentional lyric written.

As a Musician, Brittany appears as either an acoustic solo act or with a varied ensemble of dynamic Jazz musicians, also known as: Brittany Allyson + Special Sauce. Comprised of "100% Special Ingredients," Britt's Special Sauce keeps each performance fresh with improvisational instrumentation slathering her songs with the sauciest of sounds!

As an Actress, she has starred in National Commercials (AMAZON ECHO, KROGER, WA LOTTERY), Equity Productions, and several New Broadway Musical Workshops with Texas Musical Theatre Workshop (Founded by THE PROM Broadway Producer Natasha Davison). Originally from Houston, Brittany is a professionally trained vocalist with a BFA in Acting from St. Edward's University in Austin. She is the recipient of the 2014 Austin Critics' Table W.H. Deacon Crain Award, the nominee for the 2014 & 2015 Austin Critics' Table, Broadway World Austin and Central Texas Excellence in Theatre Awards for 'Best Leading Actress in a Musical'. Currently based in Seattle, she is a proud cofounder of Filament: A Collab Lab, a site-specific lab theatre company.

In 2017, Britt began fusing her original music with her theatrical training in creating and directing a "pop-up" dance-theatre concert, entitled: HERe* [hidden in the mask]. After locally touring the production, HERe* was invited to perform at Seattle's iconic Microfest Music Festival & Bumbershoot Music Festival.

Britt says her songs come to her along her personal (and never-ending) journey of self-empowerment. She hopes the musical messages she shares serve and encourage you while celebrating the joy that is music.

COVID Public Health Safety Info:

As of August 23, 2021

Welcome back Abbey Arts family!

As we reopen the doors to our venues, rest assured that we will be welcoming our patrons back in to an environment that prioritizes health and wellness. We are working with local officials to ensure current health and safety protocols are in place at Abbey Arts events, while being mindful that flexibility will be required as those guidelines will likely continue to evolve. Obviously with COVID-19 not being completely eradicated, we’ll have to change some things around here as we go. Please consult the state’s guidelines for the most up-to-date information on phases and state mandated guidelines.

IMPORTANT INFO

  • There is a statewide mask mandate for requiring masks for ALL patrons indoors REGARDLESS of vaccine status. More information from the State of Washington can be found at https://coronavirus.wa.gov/news/statewide-updated-mask-order-goes-effect-monday-aug-23
  • Starting 7/30/21 We are now requiring a government issued photo ID* and PROOF OF VACCINATION or a NEGATIVE COVID-19 PCR test result within 72 hours prior to the event to be allowed to enter the building. Find a testing center here. Please note that test results may take 24-48 hours. Please plan accordingly.
      • Full vaccination is defined as having received a final vaccination dose at least two weeks prior to the event date.
      • The name on your vaccination card or COVID test MUST match your state ID
      • Acceptable forms of proof of vaccination include: an official CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card or a picture of your vaccination card; a digital or printed WA State Certificate of COVID-19 Vaccination; a WA State Immunization Information System printout; or a verified medical record printout from a medical provider.
      • *In addition to providing proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test, guests 18 or older must present a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license or passport. Guests younger than 18 may present a government-issued photo ID or a school photo ID as an alternative. Guests younger than 18 who do not have either a government-issued ID or school photo ID can only attend performances in the company of an adult who provides the required ID and vaccine documentation for themselves and can also provide documentation for the minor’s test results or vaccination verification.
  • All employees are fully vaccinated and are required to wear masks indoors.
  • We are operating at mid capacity to allow more space and smaller crowds.
  • We have increased hand sanitizing stations around the venues. We encourage you to regularly sanitize and fully wash hands when you use the restroom.

We’d be happy to oblige, no questions asked. No refunds given after the event. Thanks!
