“Half Awake” – A Day of Looking Deeper at Fully Awakened Awareness, with Cari Jacobs
Please register here
Many of us have found deep awakening along with sustained joy and contentment in our lives through meditation and the Buddhist path. All to often though, these are passing “states” versus an abiding and full-throttle life lived. We can have pieces and parts of understanding around the awakened state, but not quite experience the totality of living fully from an awakened place. Maybe we mentally and cognitively understand what we “think” being awake should look like or be like, and we can act from the mental place. Or maybe we understand the tactile feeling of awareness and “awakeness” in the body, but our mind does not fully have the words or cognitive understanding. Or perhaps, our body, mind and spirit have moments deep awakened awareness, only to be “snapped” out of it at the smallest of triggers or distractions.
In this daylong, we will explore the full experience of awareness and of finding a more abiding state of awakening in the mind, body and spirit. We will practice on the cushion while also learning tools and techniques to help us become more fully and wide awake in our everyday lives as we go to work, interact with family and exist in community! This course will include dharma talks, periods of sitting and walking meditation and Q/A. The day will be held in sacred silence.
About Cari:
Cari Jacobs has spent her adult life traversing two worlds. In her day job, Cari is a marketing leader who brings years of marketing experience, earned in the ranks of some of the world’s leading marketing companies and ad agencies. In senior level positions, Cari led integrated marketing strategy and execution for marquee brands, including Toyota, Lexus, Procter & Gamble, Intuit, General Mills, Levi’s and Coca-Cola, She also led creation of two of the world’s first solar brands Sungevity and Sunrun and is now the CMO of Unison.
But in her early 30’s, Cari began to feel like something in her life was missing. She had fleeting moments of happiness and peace but yearned for parts of her she felt were disappearing as she grew older. The playful parts, the wonder, the open-hearted curiosity and, most of all, her empathy and compassion had been diminishing as she hacked her way through her adult life.
Cari sat in meditation for the first time in 1990 – it was a 5-day silent retreat. And, there she found traces of what would become her “other life path.” Now, years later, Cari has sat over 400 hours in silent retreats. She trained at Spirit Rock in Woodacre, CA and taught in their Family Program; studied with internationally known teachers in the Vipassana, Dzogchen, Zen and Advaita Vedanta traditions including Jack Kornfield, Trudy Goodman, Candance O’Denver and Adyashanti. She has trained in California, New York and India.
Cari was a founding member of InsightLA with Trudy Goodman in 2002 where she studied until 2005.
In 2014, Cari was one of 20 executives selected to go through Google’s Search Inside Yourself Executive Program, and in 2019, Cari graduated from The Mindfulness Meditation Program founded by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield and now holds a certificate from UC Berkeley’s Center for Greater Good and the Awareness Institute.
But Cari is not about the “woo woo.” In fact, she calls herself a gritty spiritualist and often works in urban settings, corporate offices and other places where you might not “expect” meditation.
Cari’s personal mantra? Envision & Create; Serve with a fierce and truthful heart; Laugh, have fun and create long-lasting stories.
