A Celebration of Women in Arts @ Broward County Library: Women Crossing the Line Performance Festival

About this Event

This workshop covers the roots and meaning of dances in the Haitian culture and teaches the dances to participants. Some of these include dances for opening prayer (Yanvalou), dance of harvest, (Mayi/Djouba) celebration dances (Kongo/Siren Song), the warrior dance (Nago), the revolutionary dance (Petro), the dance depicting life and death (Banda) and the dance of thanksgiving. After the workshop, participants who desire can join the dancers of Tradisyon Lakou Lakay for a short presentation in the lobby of our performance festival on April 4th.

Facilitated by Weislande "Yanui" Cesar - Dancer/ Choreographer and Director of "Tradisyon Lakou Lakay" a nonprofit arts and culture organization.
