The fundraising gala is being held to promote awareness of the dire situation in Baraderes, Haiti and support HABDER projects aimed at reconstruction efforts in the region. HABDER projects will focus on two important areas Rebuilding homes affected by hurricane Matthew, and Researching the feasibility of land cultivation to raise crops.
Why Baraderes? On November 23, 2016, a small group of volunteers traveled to Baraderes Haiti to deliver aid to the victims of hurricane Matthew. Hurricane Matthew had a devastating effect on the region and weakened an already declining and poor infrastructure. The immediate current needs on the ground are adequate shelter, food and a means for income. On a personal note, Baraderes is a place near and dear to our hearts. Of the volunteers, staff and board, 80% have a personal connection with the region, so we are interested that the resources we provide help sustain the community in Baraderes for the long term.
