Event description

Description

Hainton's DotNet Meetups are free, quarterly user groups focusing on .NET Software Development.

We're based in the North East and each meetup will consist of two sessions from speakers presenting topics relevant to the .NET space.

The opening event will be held at Campus North on Tuesday 30th Jan 2018 and runs from 6pm - 8pm (talks start at 6:30pm).

After the event we will move on to a nearby venue where you can continue to meet new people and network.

Speaker #1 - Adrian Booth

Subject: An Intro To Genetic Algorithms

Genetic Algorithms are a branch of AI / optimisation that have become quite niche in the big data age. Instead of being good at classifying people based on the nonsense posted to facebook and twitter they are a useful tool for hard discrete or continuous optimisation problems.

Given that you can find some way to represent your problem and possible solutions in code you can sit back and let the principles set out by Lamarck and Darwin nearly 200 years ago find the solution for you.

About Me:

"After spending my youth mashing the keyboard of my commodore trying, sometimes even successfully, to make something interesting happen I went on to study Computer science at university where I discovered a love of AI and data optimisation.

Since then I have spent the last 10 years working as a software developer with a brief hiatus in to study a Masters in Intelligent Systems. I currently work for Bede Gaming as a .NET Developer working on a custom cms for high traffic sites."

Speaker #2 - Peter Shaw

Subject: Get Up & Running With A Full .NET Core App In Aurelia, In About 30 Seconds.

OK so Aurelia’s not a new framework and let’s be honest, all the cool kids are largely ignoring it in favour of Angular, React, Redux, Vue or whatever else is hot at the moment.

That being the case, then why on earth would any one be interest in using it? Well in a nutshell, speed and simplicy.

With the now released .NET core 2 and the .NET Core SPA Templates, you can be up and running with a fully featured, ready to rock and roll browser application and ASP.NET API in about 30 seconds.

Aurelia is designed and supported by someone who’s got a long track history in .NET [Rob Eisenberg] it’s support in the latest round of SPA templates shipped and supported by MS themselves, it’s super, super easy to get to grips with, and it just WORKS!! Oh and did I forgot to mention, the projects you create are 100% cross platform ready!

In this session, I’ll give you an introductory tour of building an Aurelia application, working with it in Visual Studio 2017, then Deploying it to an Ubuntu Linux host, the world of web development has never been so easy.

About Me:

"What's to say... well I'm a geek, I've always been a geek and I'll always be a geek. I love writing software and tinkering with computer related stuff in general.

I run my own I.T consultancy company called "Digital Solutions Computer Software UK", I'm a Pluralsight author and the UK & Europe group manager for Lidnug (One of the largest .NET related user groups on the Linked-In network).

I'm a Microsoft Community Leader, presenter & lecturer of development related topics, oh and a Write a few computer books here and there for things like the Syncfusion Succinctly range.

I work across Linux, Unix, Windows and use lots of different languages in order to ply my trade, I've been working in I.T now for the best part of 30 years and will probably be here for at least another 30."

We welcome technologists of all ages and levels of experience to enjoy the event and network with like-minded people.

You'll be provided with free refreshments and pizza throughout the event so you don't go hungry.

Please get in touch with either Qasim (qasim@hainton.net) or Tom (tom@hainton.net) if you are interested in sponsoring or speaking at future events. You can also message us on Twitter - @haintondotnet.
