UPDATE SATURDAY JUNE 1 -- WALKINS WELCOME; we have room in each lecture for you! Come and join us.

Because of a major May 21 hailstorm, Margaret Roach’s Garden Conservancy Open Day event and giant Broken Arrow Nursery plant sale has shifted to a day of rare-plant shopping and free garden learning just down the road from her place. Sign up for free tickets above now for any/all of the impromptu offerings:

9 AM to 1 PM

at Church of St. John in the Wilderness, 261 Route 344 (near Route 22), Copake Falls, New York

note: we will also have lecture tickets at the door for walk-in's -- assuming each session isn't "sold" out! guarantee a spot now to be sure.

Three other nearby Open Days gardens escaped damage and are open for tours from 10 AM-4 PM, so come shop, learn and commiserate in Copake Falls before, between, or after your visits to those great spots--make a day of it!

The Lineup:

  • 9 AM-1:00 PM: Broken Arrow rare plant sale
  • 9 AM-1:00 PM (ongoing demos, discussion, q&a drop in anytime): Hudson Valley Seed Library’s Ken Greene on “Easy Heirlooms From, Seed to Seed.” Ken will demonstrate how to direct sow, transplant, and pot up heirloom flower, vegetable, and herb varieties, and also be answering everything you want to know about gardening but were afraid to ask. Local seeds and seedlings from the Hudson Valley Seed Library will be for sale as well.
  • 9 AM-1 PM: Rare exhibit of heirloom seed antiques. Catch a rare glimpse of heirloom antiques from the Hudson Valley Seed Library's archives. Selections from their collection of vintage seed catalogs, seed packs, and other seedy ephemera will be on display.
  • 10-10:40 AM (repeated at 12:30), slide talk on “Hellfire and Hailstones: Rolling With Nature’s Punches,” with Margaret Roach.  A virtual look at the garden before, during and after recent (and past) havoc—and ideas for what’s next (more plants!). Free ticket signup above.
  • 11 AM-noon: slide talk on “A Riot of Foliage: Color, Pattern and Texture," with Adam Wheeler of Broken Arrow Nursery. Flowers fade but leaves last. Meet some of the best foliage plants out there, that can help your garden hang together month after month. Free ticket signup above.
  • 12:30-1:10 PM: “Hellfire and Hailstones: Rolling With Nature’s Punches,” with Margaret Roach. A virtual look at the garden before, during and after recent (and past) havoc—and ideas for what’s next (more plants!). Free ticket signup above.

Note: Donations to the Garden Conservancy are welcome and encouraged, but all Copake Falls events are free of charge to thank you for rolling with Nature’s punches along with us.
