Event description

Description

IOActive invites you to the October edition of HACK::SOHO, a monthly event at our central London office. Join fellow hackers, tech-heads, enthusiasts, and visionaries for food, cold beer, and hot cybersecurity talk.

Date: Thursday, October 24th

Speaker: Jamie Riden, CREST/CHECK Team Lead at IOActive

Title: Password Cracking: The First 500 Million

In this session, Jamie Riden will present a new tool, hashcrack, to preprocess hash files and drive hashcat or John the Ripper with sensible parameters, including support for automatic ntdsutil and responder DB extraction.

Hashcrack supports many common hash formats including Cisco, UNIX, and Windows types as well as standard MD5/SHAx.

Examples of good and bad hashing methods are given, as well as advice on how to do strong password hashing and prevent credential stuffing attacks. Jamie will also do a walkthrough of cracking 500 million hashes from Troy Hunt/haveibeenpwned's NTLM password dump.

Engage in the discussion, ask questions, learn new things, and network, all while enjoying drinks and music. The bars open at 18:00, the food arrives at 18:15 and the talk will start at 19:00. Don't be late! :-)

Cheers,

The IOActive Team
