We did it! Come celebrate the first summer season of Hack the Hood, Oakland's own community program that teaches local youth tech and social marketing skills then sends them out into our neighborhoods to help get local businesses more visible online. With the support of tech friends and mentors from Facebook, Ask.com, SparkArt, Pandora, TechSoup and other companies, we've exposed our program participants to new tech careers, trained them in tech and workplace skills, and put them to work helping small businesses in Oakland. We are also celebrating our youth partners--United Roots, Youth Radio and Youth Uprising, who provided many of the youth for the program via the Mayor's Summer Jobs program.
Come out for an evening recognizing their achievements and celebrating the funders, volunteers, team members, mentors, local companies and merchants who have all collaborated and given so much to make this program a success.
With the support of the Oakland Fund for Children and Youth and The Thomas J Long Foundation, we've kicked off an exciting first season--and we'd like you to join us to celebrate.
Speakers include Fred Blackwell, City of Oakland, and youth and adult program participants including Zakiya Harris.
Underwriting and support for this event is being provided by Blue Heron Catering, Facebook.com and The Swig Company. THANK YOU ALL!!
