Event Details

Note:  We are trying a different room configuration for this event;  it will be smaller and the available slots are very limited. We cannot allow in participants who are not signed up.  If you sign up and find you cannot attend, please change your ticket order to allow in someone from the waiting list.

Are you a 6th-12th grade student who wants to learn about building stuff with computers and electronics beyond what they teach you in school? Then it's time to start teaching yourself!

Hack the Future is an all-day party / hackathon to show you what it's like to be a hacker and see if it's for you. We won't tell you what to do. You'll be free to work on whatever you want. We'll try to keep you from getting stuck, and we'll give you a place to start (if you want one). This is a unique opportunity to learn about state of the art software, hardware design and engineering from mentors working for Bay Area startups as well as big companies like Facebook and Microsoft.

You might learn how to:

  • write your own games
  • create webpages
  • make mods for existing games like Minecraft
  • create things using a 3D printer
  • design and present a new product
  • or who knows what else!

We will have a t-shirt for you, and pizza for lunch!

To Do (Hackers):

Bring a laptop for programming.

Bring laptop's administrator password to install programs.

Ask questions, try new things, and have fun!

To Do (Parents):

Check hackers in at 10 am, including bringinga copy of the medical information sheet

You can come back at 3:45 to see Lightning Talks (voluntary presentations on what hackers have been working on).

Optional: Visit the parent track, with discussions, speakers, and activities.  (One morning block, one afternoon block.)

Check out hackers at 5 pm;  the museum needs to close and our volunteer mentors have to stay with your child he or she is picked up.

Parents, please don't reserve a ticket for yourself; it messes up our count and this event is meant to let your children learn on their own. :)

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, August 24th!

P.S. All the funding goes directly into our programs. If you'd like to support Hack the Future, please consider making a one-time donation or becoming a monthly supporter. Visit our Rally Page for more information.
