Join us for “Habits of the Successful CFO” where our panel of diverse senior financial professionals share their perspectives on how to deliver value in a changing corporate environment.

Our panel will provide real experience to the audience about how to adapt under any circumstance, how to train the right support team, and how to lead the financial side of the organization with real time valuable information.

Join our panel of experts on Wednesday, December 13 as we discuss “Habits of the Successful CFO.” The panel will discuss how a CFO can be a vital participant in the company’s corporate strategy and the future direction of the organization, and how to develop the support team to be successful in a changing corporate climate.


Learning Objectives

During this session attendees will learn:

  • How a strong CFO can become an invaluable participant in overall company strategy and be seen as the “go to” person in the organization

  • Which habits are consistent and which are different given the company size, industry, and whether it is private or public

  • The skills needed by a CFO to manage their team, adapt to the changing needs of their company, and implement short and long-term strategic plans

Non-member senior financial executives who are CFOs, Vice Presidents of Finance, Directors of Finance and Controllers (or the like) are welcome to attend this program for $60.

Please note that service providers or any executives who are not senior financial executives (CFOs, Vice Presidents of Finance, Controllers, Directors of Finance, etc.) will not be admitted attendance to this event. The CFO Leadership Council reserves the right to decline any registration.

About our Speakers

John E. Hutt, Chief Financial Officer, New Castle Building Products

Specializing in financial accounting, auditing and internal control processes, John E. Hutt gained experience working for small and mid-sized firms such as Buchbinder, Tunick & Company LLP, Perelson, Weiner LLP and Traphagen Financial Group.

In August 2009, while NCBP experienced continued growth, John was hired as the company’s first Controller. John’s experience, organization and many talents have proved invaluable as he has maintained the fiscal integrity while the company has successfully grown. Additionally, John manages the Information Technology responsibilities among several operational departments.

In December 2013 John was named Chief Financial Officer.

John is married with two beautiful children. When not working on projects around the house, John enjoys his passion for cooking as he was classically trained at the French Culinary Institute in NYC.

Martin S. Latman, CFO, CPA, CISA

During his time as CFO, Marty has had the privilege to guide many talented people in organizations including, PRESTIGE CORP, LANSCO COLORS and NEW JERSEY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA.

Throughout Marty’s career, he has been zealous about improving organization performance and “bottom line” by growing gross margins, maximizing cash flows and changing procedures and technology. His talents and abilities were recognized when he was named the 2004 New Jersey Financial Executive of the Year by IMA. Additionally, in 2009 NJBiz awarded Marty the CFO of the Year award.

Possessing a skill set that combines finance, operations and technology, Marty has been successful in organizing start-up companies, turning around organizations, and setting strategic direction for companies. He has worked in both public and private industry. His background started in Public Accounting with KPMG. He later joined several Fortune 50 organizations where he was responsible for SEC Reporting, Accounting Policy compliance, Financial Systems and Mergers and Acquisitions. Subsequently, he took his talents to help small – medium sized organizations improve their performance. His background is quite unique as he has experience in over 20 industries which include for profit and not-for-profit companies. He is currently the “acting” CFO at one of New Jersey’s largest social services not for profit organizations.

In addition to helping various organizations, Marty has been a guest speaker for numerous local and national organizations including several Annual National Conferences. Marty has been a guest on the radio show www.1077TheBronc.com and CFO Studio. He has also spoken to students and alumni at several universities in the NY / NJ Metro area.

Marty is a graduate of The State University of New York-Albany, and a resident of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey.

Steven Lesiak, VP Finance and Operations, ILSE

Steve serves on the management team of ILSE and is responsible for the financial reporting and management of ILSE and operational support of the ATCC Center for Translational Microbiology and ILSE’s tenant companies. Steve joined ILSE in July 2015 in the role of Director of Finance and Operations.

Steve began his career with Johnson & Johnson in various finance roles across the pharma group including global pharma R&D where he gained an intimate knowledge of clinical drug development. He then joined Agennix (formerly GPC Biotech) as senior manager of drug development finance as they pursued various early stage and clinical phase I, II & III oncology based programs. Most recently Steve was Director of Finance/Controller for Lux Biosciences, Inc., a venture backed biotechnology company working on phase III development of an immunosuppressant for ophthalmic indications.

Steve has taught Judgment and Decision Making at Montclair State University and is active in the life science community and the economic policy and professional finance community in both NJ & NYC. He serves on the Talent Advisory Committee of BioNJ and the Steering Committee of the CFO Leadership Council.

Steve earned a B.S. in Accounting from Rutgers Business School, B.A. in Psychology from Rutgers College, and a M.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Montclair State University.

Ashley Sarokhan, Senior Vice President, Capital One Bank

Ashley Sarokhan is a Senior Vice President and senior relationship manager with Capital One Bank. Within Capital One’s Commercial Bank, Ashley is responsible for new business development and deal sourcing activities, which include strategic partnerships with business brokers, investment banks, attorneys, accountants, and consultants. Ms. Sarokhan works with middle market companies that have sales revenues between $20 million and $2 billion and provides credit across multiple industries, debt structures, and corporate profiles. She has over ten years of experience in financial services with extensive cash management, business operations, and lending expertise. Ashley has a BS in Finance from Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from NYU Stern School of Business.
