Habitat Restoration Field Day

Join The Longleaf Alliance & partners for a field day hosted by Reese & Frank Thompson on their property in Wheeler County, GA. The focus of the day will be to learn more about restoring and managing longleaf with ecological restoration as a primary objective.

9:45 am Field Tour Restoring Longleaf Pine Habitat
Stop 1: Creating Longleaf Pine Habitat from Agricultural Lands
Stop 2: Managing Mature Stands, Importance of Understory;Growing Season Fire Demonstration (weather permitting)
11:45 am Travel to Lunch Site
Noon- 1:00 pm BBQ Lunch Provided
1:00-2:00 pm Stop 3: Longleaf Sandhills Ecology, Managing for Species of Concern
2:00-2:15 pm Closing Remarks
Be prepared to walk in the woods - wear appropriate footwear, hat, sunscreen, & insect repellant. Water will be provided.
From McRae, GA - Head east on US-23 S/US-341 S/Golden Isles Pkwy/W Oak St toward 2nd Ave for 9.8 miles. Turn left on GA 134 and travel 6.4 miles to property entrance on left.
From Lumber City, GA - Head north on GA-19 for 8.6 miles. Turn left onto GA-134 and travel 0.5 mile to property entrance on right. Entrance will be marked with a Longleaf Alliance sign.
