*Ground Zero Fighting Systems Submission Challenge 2019*

Gi and No Gi grappling tournament. The first-of-its-kind format returns to Northern WV!
Round Robin format. Various weight classes and skill levels.
6 minute rounds.

Scoring as follows:
3 points for submitting an opponent in a match
1 point for a no submission draw
0 points for being submitted in a match.

This format forces competitors to perform at their best in each match, and rewards submissions over control. There are no points awarded within each, scoring is based on match outcome (win, lose, or draw), and is designed to get competitors as much experience as possible in a single competition.

Absolute NoGi Division with prize for first place (must be registered for regular division to enter).

Evening-before and morning of Weigh-ins will be available. (out-of-town gym owners, please contact us to organize remote weigh-ins for your team)

MEN’S AND WOMEN’S ADULT NO-GI & GI GRAPPLING DIVISIONS:

NO-GI EXPERIENCE LEVELS:
BEGINNER (1-2 years of experience. Includes wrestling. No wrestlers in this division).
INTERMEDIATE (2-5 years exp.)
ADVANCED (5 years +)

NO-GI ABSOLUTE DIVISION:
All competitors who choose to enter this division will entered into a single elimination bracket (not round robin style). Every match will be 6 minutes long. If no submission occurs within the 6 minute time-limit the referee will inform the competitors to continue grappling from their current position, the match will continue in now-sudden death format and whoever scores the first point after this point will be declared the winner.

*****Divisions may be consolidated. In addition, we may add divisions if the number of competitors is sufficient.***** We will do our best to maintain weight and experience classes but may combine or separate classes based on the number of competitors in each division, but will do our best to provide the best match-ups for all individuals.

WEIGHT CLASSES For Kids and Teens
Brackets for competitors aged 13-17 and 5-13 are not determined by preset weight classes. At the end of weigh-ins, the children and teens will be divided by weight, experience, and age (whenever possible).


*Special Division Rules:
-WOMEN MAY ENTER ANY MEN’S DIVISIONS AT THEIR WEIGHT OR ABOVE. MEN MUST COMPETE IN MEN’S DIVISIONS.
-Teens ages 13-17 may enter any adult divisions with permission from their coaches or Parents.

Competition Format:
- Round Robin format: All competitors will face every other competitor in their division.
- Match Duration: Adults 6 minutes, Teens 5 minutes, Kids 4 minutes
- Winner is determined by submission. If no submission occurs within allotted time, then match is considered a draw.
- Scoring will be 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for defeat.
- At the end of a division, should two or more competitors be tied, they will compete in a tie-breaker match, if no submission occurs within the match time limit the bout will continue from wherever it is and the first person to score a point following the end of regulation time shall be awarded the victory.
- Should a competitor drop out of his/her division, we will treat all unfinished matches as forfeits…awarding all competitors who the drop-out has NOT YET faced, 3 points.



RULES:
- Rash Guards or tight fitting t-shirts are required. No bare-chested grappling. You do not have to wear a shirt under your gi.
-Competitors must wear compression shorts/spandex under their shorts.
-No gi competitors are NOT allowed to grab and use their opponents clothing.
-No slamming (will result in disqualification). A competitor may not slam his opponent to escape a submission, to pass the guard, or from a standing position to slam his opponent. Takedowns are not considered slams, but a competitor has a duty to deliver his opponent to the mat in a safe fashion.
-No Boston Crabs. Boston Crab is defined as a step over pass inside the closed guard or step over ankle lock from open guard
- No throwing an opponent off the mat or spiking an opponent on his head.
- No German / Belly-to-Back Suplex (tiliting suplex is okay, but slamming directly onto neck and shoulders is illegal)
-No strikes of any kind (including hands, elbows, feet, head butts, etc.).
-No attacks to the front of the windpipe (i.e. Finger in throat), eyes (elbows, palms, fingers, etc.) or groin.
-No pinching or pulling hair.
-No pushing palm directly into face. (jaw, temple, cheek frames,...are okay)
- No small joint manipulation (fingers or toes), must have four fingers or full thumb or 4 toes.
-No spitting, swearing, or foul language.
-No covering the mouth of an opponent with your hand.
-Any loud sounds/screaming made by a competitor during a match will be considered a “Verbal Tap” and will result in an immediate referee stoppage.
-Any intentional use of an illegal technique or act of poor sportsmanship will result in the immediate ejection of that competitor.
-All competitors, coaches, and team mates are expected to show good sportsmanship. Any disrespect or threat of physical violence toward any referee, competitor, staff member, or spectator will result in disqualification and the party will be asked to leave the event.
-All competitors must come to the event clean with short finger and toe nails.
-Competitors with cold sores, fungal infections (ringworm) and any form of staph, viral or other bacterial infections or outbreaks will not be allowed to compete.
-Uniforms must be clean and free of offensive odors.
-If competitors are deadlocked or go out of bounds without being in a dominate position, the referee may resume the match from a standing position.
-A competitor may not flee the mats to avoid a submission. Fleeing the mat will result in a disqualification with no warning.
-Competitor can not disengage from the “fight” once it is on the ground. 1st offense will result in a warning, 2nd offense will result in disqualification.
-All matches will be decided by submission. A submission will occur when an athlete gives up by tapping with either their hands or feet, or when the athlete verbally submits. Sudden screaming or shouting to indicate sudden pain is considered a tap. In addition, the referee reserves the right to stop a match if a competitor caught in a submission is in danger of receiving a serious injury.
-To protect the safety of competitors- all matches will be stopped if the referee believes the competitor is in a dangerous position and may sustain an injury.

Specific Submission Rules:
-No Neck Cranks (including but not limited to crucifixes and can openers).
-No toe holds for beginner and intermediate no-gi division.
-Scissor Takedowns and Heel hooks are allowed in advance no-gi division only. Compression locks are only legal in advanced No-gi and Purple belt and above.
-Straight ankle locks (Achilles) and Kneebars are allowed in all adult divisions.
-Open Absolute Division: *All legitimate takedowns and submissions are allowed. (Still no spiking or slamming)

SPECIAL RULES ALL TEEN COMPETITORS (in addition to forbidden moves listed above):
-Only Straight Ankle and Achilles Locks allowed for legs
-No Wrist Locks.
-No Neck Cranks (Including the Can Opener).
-No scissor takedowns.
-To protect the safety of Teens - all youth matches will be stopped if the referee believes the competitor is in a dangerous position and may sustain an injury.

-Teens ages 14-17 may enter any adult divisions with permission from their coaches or Parents.
-Young Men and Women may be consolidated.
SPECIAL RULES ALL KIDS COMPETITORS (in addition to forbidden moves listed above):
-No leg locks
-To protect young competitors, referees will stop any match and declare a submission victory as soon as it is apparent a submission is on and controlled by one of the competitors. These decisions will be at the discretion of the referee in the moment and will be final.
