Event description

Description

This Class will run from 10am-3pm

Get hands-on experience preparing nutrient medias, expanding cultures, and harvesting Spirulina!

Take Home a Culture to start your own Grow!

Grow Your Own Spirulina! Spirulina is a blue-green cyanobacteria known for its amazing health benefits and incredible protein content. Spirulina has been cultivated in large ponds over the past 50 years, since the turn of the century we have seen a rise in Spirulina microfarms, mostly in France. Spirulina microfarms in France have provided a livelihood for families, which gives us great hope for introducing micro farms around the United States. Aside from being used as a food, Spirulina has potential for remediation. Spirulina is capable of absorbing unwanted nutrients in many types of water.

Over the past 3 years William has been working with various types of Algae, mostly Spirulina for food, medicine, and remediation. William has successfully maintained Spirulina for home scale harvests, and is in the process of setting up a commercial grow in Weaverville, North Carolina.
