Event description

Description

Traditionally, the Trade Unions have worked on legislation.

Over the last decade, the standard setting activities have increased and they have become a “policy tool” for the public authorities. Often, standards complement legislation. But occasionally, they are seen as an alternative for laws and regulations. Hence, the closer focus of the GWU on the standard setting activities in Europe (and beyond).

With the support of the European Commission and EFTA, the GWU, MCCAA and ETUC are co-organising this Maltese event on standardisation.

The objective of this event is to make standardisation more visible, also pointing out the new legislative framework which makes that standards have become a “soft regulation” tool.

The event has two parts:

  • The morning session is open to the wider public, with a focus on trade uions
  • The afternoon session is focused on experts who would like to actively participate in elaborating standards, providing them with the basic skills
