About this event

We invite you to the 2021 Gut Microbiome and Cardiovascular Disease Symposium, a free satellite symposium of the High Blood Pressure Council Research Council of Australia (HBPRCA) Annual Scientific Meeting, co-hosted by the School of Biological Sciences, Monash University, Australia.

The symposium will be a day-long online free event on the 7th of December 2021 (AEST time), with 20 presentations by leaders in the field, talks selected from abstracts, and a discussion about the future of the field.

The full program is available at https://www.marqueslab.com/symposium-program. We will cover general aspects about the gut microbiota, the microbiome and its relationship with diet, guidelines for design of studies, recent findings pertinent to both animal and human gut microbiota in hypertension and associated diseases, including stroke, heart failure, obesity, atherosclerosis, and diabetes.

International speakers include Prof Wilson Tang (Cleveland Clinic), Prof Bina Joe (Toledo University), Dr Annet Kirabo (Vanderbilt University College of Medicine), A/Prof Levi Waldron (City University of New York), Dr Cameron McCarthy (University of South Carolina), and Prof Dominik Muller (Max-Delbrück-Center Berlin). We also invite you to a discussion session about the next steps in research in this area, to drive associations to causation and translation.

In partnership with the Journal of Human Hypertension, we invite attendees to submit their manuscripts to a special issue on the gut microbiome and cardiovascular disease.

We are grateful to Integrated Sciences who are sponsoring the symposium.

We look forward to seeing you there, and discussing all things microbiome!
