Event description
Come learn about water quality issues and learn to monitor stream health by collecting and identifying benthic macroinvertebrates!

About this Event

Save Our Streams (SOS) is a fun way to test water quality monitoring by collecting and identifying underwater insects, called macroinvertebrates. The SOS protocol is used by the Chesapeake Monitoring Cooperative (CMC) in order to collect volunteer-based water quality monitoring data. The Izaak Walton League is working with the Gunpowder Valley Conservancy to provide a workshop for those who wish to become CMC- certified Biological Monitors.

Training will consist of an indoor morning session followed by an afternoon session practicing our monitoring techniques at nearby stream.

Dress for the weather, as we will be doing the field component in rain or shine in the afternoon. Bring your own rubber boots, waders, or water shoes, and a bagged lunch. Note-taking supplies are suggested.

Classes fill up quickly, so register now!
