Event description

Description

Please join us for a mingling party to celebrate the esablishment of Gung Ho Projects, a new theater and education company using performance to connect the U.S. and China!

The party will help culminate our first week of rehearsals on the Liangshan Project, a new multilingual theater piece we're developing with a diverse collaborative of American and Chinese performers, writers, and musicians. We want to give our New York community to meet the artists and learn about the early stages of our work together.

From May 16-22, four artists are coming from the Liangshan region of Sichuan Province to join director Michael Leibenluft, playwright Marcus Gardley, and composers Martha Redbone and Aaron Whitby for a retreat at the Lark Play Development Center. Liangshan is situated in the mountains of Western China and is home to two million people belonging to the Yi minority group. For the next stage, the project will be going into a month long rehearsals in Liangshan, and, in full hope and faith, will come back to American for a full tour. We look forward to meeting friends, old and new! 有朋自远方来,不亦乐乎!

Beer, nosh, and live music!
