Event description

Description

In this 10th Anniversay Year for Tonetech we are putting on several events to help guitar making or repair enthusiasts to learn from full time professionals. In this first event, Jim Fleeting will tell us all about acoustic soundboards, materials, construction and tuning. Event limited to 35 people.

The afternoon presentation will cover soundboard timbers, bracing patterns and tuning the soundboard. There will be some light refreshments (sandwiches and tea/coffee) provided and an opportunity to poke around the Tonetech Store. There will be time to chat about all things guitar related and if you'd like to bring a guitar you've made or restored to show us, please do (and bring a stand).

After 15 years of playing in bands Jim enrolled on the Guitar Making and Repair course at Merton College in Surrey, and found his calling.

The next year, Jim moved to America to train at the prestigious Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery in Arizona. The Roberto-Venn School, which amounts to a cluster of sheds and shacks in the shadow of the Phoenix Mountains, enjoys an unparalleled reputation. Former students have been recruited by Collings Guitars, Santa Cruz Guitars, Gibson and Fender, amongst others. Jim also studied at Ervin Somogyi's "Voicing the acoustic guitar" class.
