As we learn to make our very own chocolate from scratch, beginning with the bean, we will also learn about the importance of fair-trade products in the context of Chanukkah, a holiday that cries out against oppression. We will learn about making empowered choices that support workers' rights today, bringing ancient texts to bear on modern contexts. Enjoying the fruits of our labor, as all who labor should, we will enjoy the sweet creations we have made, and dedicate ourselves to the fair-trade hope that all shall be able to enjoy sweetness and light, “bread and roses,” of this season and always. Co-spsonsored by Ganei Beantown and Nehar Shalom Community Synagogue.
