What: The Delaware Association for Environmental Education is pleased to offer this one-day workshop introducing participants to the National Project for Excellence in Environmental Education series: Guidelines for Excellence. The Guidelines for Excellence in Environmental Education is a national program to increase the quality of environmental education through creating balanced, scientifically accurate, and comprehensive programs. The North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) has produced a set of documents that guide and define excellence in environmental education.

- Non-formal Environmental Education Programs: Guidelines for Excellence
- Excellence in Environmental Education: Guidelines for Learning (K-12)
- Guidelines for the Preparation and Professional Development of Environmental Educators
- To identify the key characteristics of high quality environmental education programs;
- To discuss the relationship between program design and program evaluation;
- To describe how the Guidelines for Excellence publications can be used to develop quality programs.
Who should attend: Environmental educators, administrators, or program developers who are concerned about the quality of nonformal environmental education programs.
Cost: Free for current DAEE members; $20 for new members; Lunch will be provided.

Join the Guidelines Trainers' Bureau!
Guidelines Trainers' Bureau members give presentations and facilitate workshops for a variety of audiences on the Guidelines, focusing on how they can be used to promote excellence in environmental education. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Guidelines Trainer's Bureau, you will also want to attend a special half day session on Tuesday, November 15th in addition to the all day workshop. Day 2 will be held at Bellevue State Park, 800 Carr Road. There is no charge for this facilitator workshop.

Bora Simmons, PhD
Bora Simmons serves as the founding director of the National Project for Excellence in Environmental Education, an initiative of the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE). The Project has drawn on the insights of literally thousands of educators across the United States and around the world to craft guidelines for top-quality environmental education. After twenty years as a professor of environmental education at Northern Illinois University, Bora retired and moved the Project to the Institute for a Sustainable Environment at the University of Oregon. Bora has been actively involved in environmental education research, evaluation, and professional development for forty years.
She served as president of NAAEE; serves on numerous steering committees and boards of directors, and was an executive editor of the Journal of Environmental Education. Bora has received NAAEE’s Walter E. Jeske Award for Outstanding Contributions to Environmental Education, the award for Outstanding Contributions to Research in Environmental Education, and the award for Outstanding Service to Environmental Education at the Global Level.
