Event description

Description

The Great Barnfield Rambles is an investigation into the life of Fred Barnfield, locally celebrated artist and Sandwell legend. Trevor Pitt has been rambling (walking) and rambling (talking) with people from the Black Country who knew Fred to create his Audio Ramble installation that you can listen to at Wednesbury Library from 24 May.

At this event you can see a display of art works by Fred with memorabilia shared by friends and family; tea and biscuits provided.

Trevor Pitt and Keith Hodgkins (a local historian and architect who was one of Fred’s closest friends) will lead you on the ramble, accompanied along the way by friends of Fred who will share their stories of him at stopping points.

The Great Barnfield Rambles starts at Wednesbury Library followed by Wednesbury Memorial Garden, St Bartholomew’s Church, Wednesbury Museum and Art Gallery, The Boer Wall, a walk through the town centre and then on to Brunswick Park. At Brunswick Park Bandstand there will be a 30min recital of music by Beethoven played live by students from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, with cake and cold refreshments.

This commission is part of the Forge Artist Open Call Programme which invited 12 West Midlands artists and/or curators to make new bodies of work for the Blast! Festival and take part in a mentorship programme.
