In this workshop, Salvatore Antonio guides participants through the process of preparing a monologue for performance/auditions. Approaching your chosen text, through plot analysis, character, and intention, participants will hone their skills in delivering a monologue.
- The monologue should be memorized.
- Monologue should be contemporary, as opposed to classical.
- Monologue should be between 2–– 4 minutes max.
- Monlogue should be from a published play, and the performer should read the entire play to ensure they can speak to the context/situation surrounding the excerpt. (pieces from Canadian plays are preferred)
- They will need to have an unmarked paper copy of the monologue and pencil/eraser/writing surface for the workshop.

About Salvatore:
Salvatore Antonio has been acting professionally for 26 years. He is nominated for a 2020 ACTRA Award, and was also nominated for a 2019 Canadian Screen Award. He graduated with high distinction from the Acting program at the prestigious National Theatre School of Canada, where he also taught Acting For Camera for six years. Since 2009, Salvatore has served as the Artistic Director, and lead instructor of advanced on-camera training at Toronto’s Armstrong Acting Studios.
As an actor Salvatore has played on most of Canada's professional stages from Vancouver to Halifax. Recent performances include; the title-role in Jordan Tannahill’s Botticelli In The Fire & Sunday In Sodom† (Canadian Stage Company); Domesticated (Canadian Stage Company) and Much Ado About Nothing (Tarragon Theatre). Salvatore’s has amassed over 60 screen credits playing featured and lead roles in television and film. Recent series-regular roles include; season 5 of Schitt’s Creek†† (CBC/POP), season 3 of Slasher (Netflix), season 2 of Mary Kills People †††(Global), and Saving Hope (CTV, NBC).
Salvatore is also a published playwright, who has been produced internationally in centers including Toronto, Florence, San Francisco, and New York. He was named a finalist for the Governor General's Award for Drama for his first play In Gabriel's Kitchen in 2007.
He has been Playwright-In-Residence at Buddies In Bad Times Theatre, and an invited member of the Playwright's Unit at Tarragon Theatre, Buddies In Bad Times, and Factory Theatre. Most recently, he wrote and directed an original work, S h e e t s. which was produced at Videofag, and subsequently at Theatre Centre in Toronto.
