Guardianship and Planning for the Future of a Child with Special Needs

When your child reaches his or her 18th birthday, he or she is considered to be capable of making legal, financial and other decisions by New York State. In this FREE workshop, a Guardianship Lawyer will address guardianship and special needs planning issues concerning how to meet the health, legal and financial needs of children with disabilities.

Cuando su hijo o hija alcance su 18 cumpleaños de edad, él o ella se considera que es capaz de tomar decisiones legales, financiera y médicas por  el estado de Nueva York. En este taller se hablará de la tutela y asuntos de planificación relacionados a cómo planear el futuro legal y financiero de los niños con discapacidades.

Autism Initiative @ The Metropolitan Parent Center

The Metropolitan Parent Center offers training presented on a variety of topics related to special education, ranging from one-time workshops on topics of current interest to an intensive advocacy series designed to develop the knowledge and skills of parents to advocate for their own children and assist other parents.  Training sessions are detailed in our online calendar, and offered year-round at Sinergia or at host organizations. MPC also provides one-to-one assistance and advocacy to help parents resolve special education issues. 

Autism Initiative: 

The Center's Autism Initiative is a significant project that provides free support and training to parents of children on the autism spectrum. It also offers an arts program for children on the spectrum, ages 3 to 13, as well as an integrated transition program for younger adults ages 14 up to 21.

The program, incorporates a series of workshops (in English and Spanish) and  Desayunos - Encuentros for Spanish speaking parents, which provide families with an intimate and informal settings where they came together to learn, share experiences, resources and ideas.

Autims Initiative workshops, Series and Support Group for Spanish speaking parents, are generously funded by the New York City Council Autism Awareness Initiative and Hon. Councilwoma Melissa Mark viverito
