Event Details

Join OTA and industry leaders for a discussion on the risk and consequences of domain collisions resulting from the delegation of new gTLDs.  This full-day multi-stakeholder workshop will review the open issues and help develop remediation plans to address the impending risk of Domain Collision.  Not unlike Y2K and the recent efforts to address the threats of DNSChanger exploit, the business community, industry and infrastructure providers need to work together to understand the risks and how to prepare for them.

BACKGROUND

The DNS ecosystem is complex and multifaceted, serving both the public Internet and intranets within companies, homes, academia, goverment and other private places. Consistent with industry best practices, for the past 20 years, network administrators have set up intranets with domain name suffixes, such as .CORP, .HOME and .MAIL, intentionally chosen to not collide with existing TLDs. Client software (browsers, email, custom software) that reach the DNS on the Internet rely on these strings to access internal resources and services.  Now with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) on the verge of authorizing more than 1,000 new top level domains, many of these strings may start resolving on the global Internet and, without mitigation, could impact nearly any Internet-connected network.

Join experts from around the world who will be discussing the issues and the implications for corporations, small businesses and their service providers.

Registration includes breakfast, lunch and a cocktail reception.  OTA welcomes contirbutions and sponsorships to help off-set the costs of these programs.
