The Gender & Sexuality Equity Coalition (GSEC), formerly the AS Women’s Center, is celebrating 50 years of student-run activism!

About this event

On October 21 - 22, 2022, CSU, Chico’s Gender & Sexuality Equity Coalition (GSEC) will be celebrating its 50th anniversary by hosting a two-day conference and celebratory weekend to commemorate this important milestone. This event will feature feminist and LGBTQ+ keynote speakers and provide an opportunity for alums and community members to rally around the important work that the GSEC continues to do.

The conference will run from 10am - 4pm on Friday, October 21 and pick back up the following day from 10am - 5pm in the Bell Memorial Union (BMU). We invite GSEC and Women's Center Alum to purchase tickets for the 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner being hosted at the Chico Women's Club from 5pm - 9pm that Friday night.

As a part of the celebration reunion weekend, this year’s annual Womxn’s Conference will highlight the movements, organizers, students, and theory that guided the past five decades of activism and our path forward. It is the GSEC’s mission to continue to provide an inclusive and intersectional learning environment that highlights the theme of student-run activism. This 2-day conference will convene 200 supporters at CSU, Chico and will feature keynote speakers, workshops, networking events, and much more. This anniversary celebration will be a moment to reflect on 50 years of student-run activism, as well as strategizing the next 50 years for the GSEC. Please considering sharing this event with your social networks and former Women's Center/GSEC alumni!

Formerly the AS Women’s Center, the GSEC is a student-run activist organization that strives to empower all students through its three programs: the Women’s Program, the Queer Program, and the Trans* Program. The GSEC challenges societal norms that have been used to oppress and marginalize, by providing opportunities for leadership, personal development, and referral services. GSEC offers a safe and inclusive space where the campus and community can effectively support the academic mission of the university.
