Event description

Description

Affordability is a complex question. At the very least, we must include transportation costs as they vary across the metropolis in any meaningful analysis or programs to help people with affordable housing. At best, we can fix our land development code, deploy a suite of diverse interventions, and invest in an Austin where everyone who wants to live here can do so, comfortably and with dignity.

Farm&City is hosting a series of discussions to empower the people of Austin with stories about regional growth that can lead to the future we want.

Three breakfast events will culminate in a fourth full-morning final event. Panels of local experts for each topic – parking, affordability, sustainability, and regional growth – will respond to a series of reports released at each event.

FAQs

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Impact Hub Austin on W. Monroe is fairly acessible by transit using the 10, 5, 1, or 801. It is also in a fairly accessible location by bike except for the fact that South 1st clearly should be a 4 to 3 road diet. RideAustin can get your there.

Unfortunately, Impact Hub is required by the City of Austin to impose a cost upon all the people using their desks or event space to subsidize the people who choose to drive personal vehicles to the space with impervious surface to store their vehicles on.

Also unfortunately, they don't seem to charge anything for this extraordinary subsidy. If you can't find a parking spot directly on the property, Impact Hub bundles into all their services the cost of paying for extra parking a block south on S. 1st and there are big signs leading you there. Of course, finding a place to park isn't really a problem, and means you're likely trying to go to a desirable event.

What does "breakfast" mean?

Tacos and coffee, of course.

Are there other events in this series?

Yes! We have four events planned in the Growing Weirder Breakfast Series. Check out the whole series at http://www.growingweirder.org.

Maybe your firm would like to sponsor?

I can't afford to pay for this, but am very interested. What's the deal?

Farm&City is a charitable nonprofit and all of our work has to be funded. However, we are working with sponsors to ensure that everyone that wants to be in this discussion can be. Please email jay@farmandcity.org and give your pitch for a complimentary ticket. In general, we hope to be able to give complimentary tickets to all nonprofit employees and lower-income people who really can't afford it.

What about media and elected officials?

You're in. If you are independent, local media, you're crucial to the democratic Texas we are trying to build and we value your time spent on giving much broader access to the ideas shared in little events like this. If you're an elected official or work for a local elected official, you also need to be in this conversation. Please contact jay@farmandcity.org for complimentary passes.
