Description

Objective:

To learn how and when the best time to plan, amend soil, plant, tend, harvest and clean. We will discuss soil, locations, layout, seasons, what to plant, how to grow, how to harvest, how to turn your harvest into food. We will go through all four season of planning, planting, growing and harvesting.

What to bring: Ideas, questions, concerns, previous gardening situations, previous garden plans, notepaper, pen or pencil and a 2018 calendar.

Introduction: Learn the Biodynamic Calender. Check weather conditions for current, previous two weeks and outlook. Discuss what this means in producing of food. This is when we will make plans, locations, talk amendments and define terms, soil type identifications and soil testing.

Plants!!! This week we will discuss all types of plants from herbs: Culinary and medicinal, Flowers: Landscape, Native and Edible, Vegetables: Heirloom, open pollinated, Hybrid, GMO, Trees & Shrubs: Fruit and Landscaping. Checking in on weather.

Growing: AKA Farming: We will start from seed to germination to maturity to harvestable. This is when we will discuss what is the more efficient way and sustainable way of your situation and how you want to farm. For example: Seed or plant, Bare root or not. Irrigation or not. Drought Tolerant or not. This is also the time when we will talk applications. For instance: Amending soil or fertilizing. Checking in on weather.

Let’s Eat!!! We will celebrate the harvest. Talk about what is in season now and what to do with all this food. We will discuss, drying, preserving, canning, saucing, and seed collection. Checking in on weather. There will be a dish served of what is in season.
