Growing Edible Mushrooms at Home!
Sunday, April 22, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (EDT)
Do you love the dense, meaty mushrooms from the farmers market but don't like paying high prices all of the time? Do you forage but sometimes come home with nothing because of unpredictable weather or competitive foraging?
The solution is to grow your own mushrooms! Many varieties are easy to grow indoors at home in materials that are readily available and FREE! In this class students will learn to make a Shiitake mushroom log and how to grow Oyster mushrooms in used espresso grounds. Students will learn about the basics of mycoculture, maintenance and care of mycelium cultures, how to propegate for more mushrooms and how to preserve harvested mushrooms for storing.
All workshop attendees will leave with a mini shiitake log and a starter oyster mushroom culture of their own.
