Description

Celebrating 10 years of inspiring young citizens

This year Kirklees Youth Council is 10 years old - and everyone is welcome to come along to this special event to celebrate. It's part of our Local Democracy Week 2018 programme in Kirklees, which is a way for more people to get involved in our local democracy.

Our youth council helps young citizens in Kirklees to learn about local democracy, to gain skills and confidence, to become active citizens, and to have a voice.

At this special 10th anniversary event we’re celebrating the fantastic achievements of our youth councillors so far. We’ll be hearing the experiences of our past and current youth councillors, and asking everyone to share their ideas about how we can grow an even stronger youth council over the next ten years.

The event will be opened by the Mayor of Kirklees, Cllr Gwen Lowe.

The evening will include:

  • Presentations from current and former youth councillors

  • Group discussions about how we can support young citizens in the future

  • An opportunity to share your own stories and ideas

  • Recources to take away so that you can continue the conversation

Democracy Ambassadors

Young participants will also be able to find out more about becoming a Democracy Ambassador in Kirklees, as part of a programme supported by Young Citizens UK.

Who is it for?

This is an open event - anyone is welcome to participate and we hope that you will be part of it. We would particularly like to involve anyone who is interested in working with our youth council in the future, and anyone who has been part of Kirklees Youth Council over the past 10 years. The event is relevant for Kirklees citizens, for local organisations, for councillors and for anyone who is interested.

Follow live

If you can't make it here in person, you can follow some of the event via our live webcast on the evening, and you will be able to contribute your ideas and comments online.
