Since design thinking took off, everything can be solved, by design! Right ;-)? Within this great popularity of design lies opportunity, and a threat too...
Design is evolving at a high pace. The concept of design is changing, and basically design is hotter than ever! Big companies buy up design agencies by the dozens. Millions are invested in design centres.
The term design is getting diluted. Because design is going places it never used to, also in areas where people may or may not fully understand what it is. So what does that mean for Grow graduates - ambitious design managers looking for new opportunity? Is design thinking part of the scope of .... a design manager? Well yes, certainly!
It is a design leader's job to lead design thinking, and have a vision about it.
Some design leaders got opportunistic and rebranded their design department into a design thinking department. That's one big invitation to the world outside of design, saying 'you can be part of us, we can help you'. IBM is an example of that, training 1000s of people in design thinking. A strategic choice. Others might choose to stay far away from it. It's easy to understand how, for example, a small graphic design agency, steers clear from design thinking. If you're good at making identities and Illustrator is your sole tool: how is design thinking going to be part of your service scope? Isn't that a tad bit too opportunistic?
The thing is: the design thinking opportunity will come around, sooner or later. At the Grow Boost 2017 we will find out what your perspective is on design thinking. Together with Grow Graduates from around the world we will discuss the pro’s and cons, look into examples from companies, and of course: we will introduce you to a new tool! This tool will help design leaders profile themselves, and be prepared for whatever design thinking opportunity is thrown at them.
We strongly believe in the power of continuous personal development for professionals. The Grow Boost helps Grow Graduates learn more in a familiar atmosphere and a group of smart people with a great starting level of knowledge and capability. The Grow Boost is our annual event exclusive for Grow graduates, to catch up, spark the passion and add some new learnings. Below is the Grow Boost 2016 after-vid. The presence of our graduates, the good conversations and catching passion made it a fantastic and inspiring day
The Grow boost 2017 will be held in Oslo at the headquarters of our partner the Norwegian Centre for Design and Architecture (DogA). The centre provides an arena for large and small architecture and design exhibitions, conferences and meetings. We have been organizing Cross Company programs with the DogA for over 4 years now. Currently we are running our 7th program in Norway. This year the DogA will also be the stage for the DMI: Design Management Conference Europe. As this is another inspiring event which gathers design leaders from around the world, it makes great sense to connect the boost to this event!
