About the region: Known as the “land of wine” and fondly recognized by millions as “the country that looks like a boot” is Italy; a country that is divided into 20 different regions, containing over 2,000 different grape varietals. Each region contributes to creating diverse styles and varieties of wine. Being a peninsula, the coasts offers a moderate climate ideal from growing vines but having numerous mountain ranges also allowed for multiple climates and soils allowing a significant amount of grape varietals to thrive. Italy is actually home to the famed Mascato, Chianti, and Amarone wines. And speaking of famed, Tuscany produces a line of wines called “Super Tuscan”, a term coined back in the 1980’s, meaning that these wines use grapes that are not indigenous to Italy. Over-all, Italy is a place that can’t be missed when on your personal wine journey!
