Join us for the interactive session of your blended learning on Safeguarding Children in childcare- Learn, grow and protect our little ones!

Join us on for the interactive online session of the blended learning. Focused on enhancing your knowledge and skills in safeguarding children.


Before booking, please make sure to leave at least 2 weeks to complete the e-learning before attending the tutor-led session. You MUST complete the e-learning, before you attend the tutor-led training. You will be asked to refer to your workbook and notes from the e-learning during the tutor-led training.

In May 2023, Welsh Government introduced revised National Minimum Standards for Regulated Childcare for children up to the age of 12 years (NMS) this included clearer guidance on safeguarding training requirements in Wales

Coram Pacey Cymru and Children in Wales have worked in partnership to develop a package of training for the sector in line with the revised standards that meets the needs of all those working in childcare and early years settings. This training will be delivered through a blended approach of self-directed online learning and trainer led learning.

The aim of this course is to support you to understand the legislation and guidance that reflects your role in relation to safeguarding in Wales, in order to enable you to work in ways that safeguarding children from abuse, harm and neglect.

How is the training delivered?

The training is delivered as a blended course in TWO parts.

Part 1: E-learning module developed by Coram Pacey Cymru

Part 2: Tutor led session delivered online by Children in Wales' expert trainers.


There are ten learning outcomes which will be covered in this course:

  1. Be able to apply relevant legislation, policies and codes of conduct to day-to-day practice and advise others about these.
  2. Understand that the voice of the child (or adult) is central to safeguarding decisions throughout the safeguarding process.
  3. Understand how to work in ways that safeguard people, including `professional curiosity’ and professional accountability.
  4. Understand how values and attitudes affect responses to safeguarding and identify barriers to concerns being addressed.
  5. Use knowledge about the factors and situations that could lead or contribute to abuse, neglect and harm and the indicators of these to assess safeguarding concerns and make decisions to protect children.
  6. Know how, when and to whom to report concerns and provide rationale for sharing information and taking action to protect children.
  7. Understand and follow the Wales Safeguarding Procedures and any regional decision-making process and advise others/colleagues about these when required.
  8. Understand how to work in partnership in a multi-agency context and be clear about other professionals’ roles and responsibilities.
  9. Consider how to engage and support others, including all staff in noticing and responding to concerns about a child/young person, including through peer support and supervision.
  10. Be clear about own safeguarding role and responsibility and be able to take personal responsibility for continuing professional development.


To participate in the e-learning session, you will need:

This training is completed online, you will need access to your OWN computer/laptop, and some computer skills, to complete the course.

We would recommend access to a PC or laptop to complete the training as you will be required to download, save, and complete a workbook for submission.


To participate in the Tutor-led sessions, you will need:

  • Your OWN computer/lap-top with camera and mic switched on.
  • A quiet space
  • A pen and paper for note taking
  • Your mobile phone for doing online survey

Please make sure you have your own laptop/computer, please do not share with anyone and we do not recommend using a phone or tablet device, as you will not have access to the full package needed to take part. You will need your phone for online quizzes and mentimeter, there will be group work and discussions during the session.


A certificate will only be issued upon completion of both parts of the training and our evaluation form at the end of the tutor-led session.


Identifying the training you need

The safeguarding training required will depend upon your role, we have guidance and FAQs to help you identify which level of training applies to you at safeguarding training in Wales.

Once you have established which training you need, check with your local authority for details of any local courses, as these are often available at a subsidised rate.


When looking to purchase or access safeguarding training in Wales you need to carefully consider:

  • The course is specific to Wales
  • It is the required level for your role
  • It is being delivered in an appropriate way to meet the NMS requirements (online for Group A training and blended or face-to-face for group B and C training)
  • The duration of the course meets the NMS requirements


Follow these steps to book your training:

Step 1) Check with your local authority to see whether subsidised training is available locally to you before booking on to Coram Pacey Cymru’s and Children in Wales’ training.

Step 2) Choose your date for the tutor-led training with Children in Wales and purchase your course here. Remember to allow sufficient time to complete the e-learning part of the course in the two weeks before your tutor-led training when booking.

Step 3) You will receive a booking confirmation for the tutor-led training by email from Children in Wales.

Step 4) Forward your booking confirmation to cymru@corampacey.org.uk for enrolment onto the e-learning part of your course.

Step 5) You will receive confirmation of your enrolment and access to the e-learning course by email from Coram Pacey Cymru two weeks in advance of your tutor-led course date.

Step 6) Access and work through the e-learning part of your course. As part of this download your workbook, work through this and the online knowledge checks when prompted within the e-learning. Be sure to complete the e-learning part of your course before the tutor-led training date.

Step 7) Attend the tutor led part of your course. The email sent by Children in Wales will have the link and access requirements for this. Have your downloaded and completed workbook from the e-learning to hand as this will be referred to throughout the training.

Step 8) Once you have completed both parts of the course your electronic certificate will be released to you by Children in Wales and can be shared with CIW and others as needed.
