The Fourth Annual AIPG Workshop (technical conference) features the Groundwater/Surface Water Interface (GSI) pathway. Keynote speaker, Jon Allan, Director of the DEQ’s Office of the Great Lakes will address the importance of Michigan’s water resources. Featured speakers, Bob Wagner, Chief of the MDEQ-RRD, and Sara Pearson, RRD’s TAPS Team Coordinator, will direct the focus toward the 2012 legislative changes to the State’s environmental remediation program highlighting the 10 ways to evaluate and manage risks (demonstrate compliance) associated with hazardous substances and the GSI pathway. The Workshop provides the latest from regulatory agencies, universities, industry, private consulting and law firms including sampling techniques and project case studies directly related to the 10 ways to evaluate and manage risks for the GSI pathway.
The GSI pathway has historically been a complicated pathway to understand, characterize, and demonstrate compliance; this technical conference aims to provide valuable information and tools to consultants, regulators, and owners of properties. The science and risks associated with contaminated venting groundwater as well as ways to demonstrate compliance with regulations to help bring sites to closure will be featured. Additionally, attendees will be able to participate in hands-on field demonstrations along scenic Higgins Lake using established methods and tools to measure water quality characteristics (e.g., pore water sampling) and also some remote sensing technologies (thermal imaging) to observe the dynamics of the GSI.
Early registration for all AIPG members is set at $350 for the two day conference. The Non-member rate is $395 for two days. Members and non-members alike can opt to attend for a single day for $220. Early registration ends on May 31, 2014. After this date, registration will be $395 for members and $425 for non-members. Registration for the Workshop includes workshop materials, lunch each day, dinner on Tuesday, breakfast on Wednesday, snacks and drinks during breaks, and the social networking event on Tuesday night. Rooms are not included, but camping is available next door at the State camp ground (within walking distance) and blocks of rooms are being held at the Comfort Suites Houghton Lake for a conference special rate of $59.99. A free shuttle service between the RAM Center and the hotel will be available on the night of the networking event. Continuing education hours will be available.
The AIPG Michigan Section is looking for sponsors to help support AIPG’s highly anticipated technical conference. Five levels of sponsorship are available: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Leadership (see sponsor benefits page for more details). At a minimum, sponsors receive an associate membership for one year in AIPG and a one year of advertising in the Michigan Section newsletter. Sponsor’s ads will be featured in the advertising section of the workshop materials booklets or on flash drives (see Exhibitors section). Gold and Platinum sponsors will also receive one free registration and Leadership sponsors receive two free registrations at the Workshop. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for Bronze and Silver levels for the Plenary session, social networking event, and for the 15-minute breaks each day to provide for snacks and drinks in return for additional promotional exposure during these breaks.
During the Workshop, we have secured the room adjacent to the main conference room at the RAM Conservation Education Building and hallway space for our exhibitors at select levels of sponsorship (see sponsor benefits page for more details). Exhibitors in the room will have one 8-foot x 3-foot table and an electrical outlet (if needed). Tables and hallway space are in limited supply and will be reserved on a first come, first serve basis. Set-up starts at 8:30 AM on Tuesday and tear down will begin after 5:00 PM on Wednesday. If you would like to set up the night before, special arrangements can be made. Please send an electronic copy of your logo along with contact information to be placed in each attendee’s registration packet. Please also provide any materials you wish to have distributed. Presentations will be made available on the AIPG Michigan Section website after the Workshop.
