How can we effectively “do good” in our non-profit programs, school activities, community organizing, and lives? How can we ensure that our good intentions aren’t reinforcing inequalities or injustices?

Join us for this interactive, 1-day workshop on "grounded program design," the development and implementation of initiatives based in community needs and justice – rather than assumed knowledge and charity. Facilitators will guide participants in reflecting on their experiences, the steps of grounded program design, and the complexities of social justice practice. Each participant will workshop their own real-life examples and develop personalized, practical steps to align their social justice values with their work.

Coaching: After the workshop, we’ll provide each group or organization attending with coaching over several months, to support your continued planning or implementation of ideas from the workshop. This includes:

  • Tangible goal-setting and accountability checks

  • 2 group phone calls to discuss progress, questions, challenges, and shared strategies

  • Optional: We can offer additional workshops or advising for your team on specific projects. Talk to us about what you need!

Who should participate? This workshop is ideal for people spending their time in non-profits, schools, community organizing, public service organizations, and other spaces seeking a stronger commitment to social justice. It is particularly appropriate for folks designing and implementing programmatic strategy and on-the-ground initiatives, but will also resonate for people working in other aspects of organizational planning, communications, and advocacy.
