Event description

Description

A Baroque keyboard + vocal program with an electronic twist with music by Bach, Handel & Porpora

Ju-eh (Juecheng Chen), voice

Dk (Lu Wang), electronics composer

HH (Hitomi Honda), piano

How can Baroque music be reinterpreted in the 21st century? Countertenor Ju-eh (Juecheng Chen), pianist HH (Hitomi Honda) and composer Dk (Lu Wang) are presenting a concert framing the beautiful baroque tradition with cinematic electronics - Grotto: An electronic baroque sound cave. The concert program consists of keyboard and oratorio works from J.S. Bach and opera arias from G.F. Handel and N. Porpora. Ju-eh, HH and Dk as a trio are exploring how acoustic sounds and amplified sounds can be blended together. The keyboard pieces are hand picked by HH showcasing a unique soundscape mixing the profound Bach solo keyboard repertoire by the modern piano with Dk's delicate electronic sounds. Before that, the concert is opened by the famous alto solo aria Agnus Dei from B minor mass, which sets the tone: sensual, spiritual and stimulating.

The second half of the concert brings in the repertoire of the famous castrato Farinelli. The chosen arias all featured in the movie Farinelli picturing his life which has a glamorous yet melancholic quality. Ju-eh as a countertenor and a curator, represents the modern version of this mysterious image in the past. With a creative angle conceptualizing virtuosity with electronics, Ju-eh, HH and Dk will leave an open end to the concert with an experimental improvisation as a trio.
