I-Corps Graduate Ongoing Education, or "GrOE", is a program dedicated solely to helping I-Corps grads from the NYCRIN region learn how to form and grow a sustainable and successful venture.
This FIRST EVER meetup in NYC is for grads to network, share challenges and solutions, find new mentors or other team members, and perhaps most importantly: learn about a specific topic you currently need guidance with from an expert in the field.
The topic this month will be Intellectual Property and will be hosted by the CUNY Technology Transfer Director, Doug Adams, and the USPTO Innovation Coordinator, Mindy Bickel.
- 5:00-5:15pm Arrival and Welcome
- 5:15-5:35pm Presentation by Doug Adams: "Licensing your Technology from your University to your Company"
- 5:40-6:00pm Presentation by Mindy Bickel: "Intellectual Property for Startups"
- 6:00-6:15pm Q&A
- 6:15-6:45pm Networking & workshop with speakers
Survey Incentive: we’ll pick one person who completed the survey AND who comes to the 1st meetup to win a prize!
Mindy Bickel is the local United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Innovation and Outreach Coordinator. Mindy, a 20-year veteran of the USPTO, is able to answer intellectual property questions such as how patents (and other intellectual property protection) can be useful in moving technologies from the research lab to the market. She can also provide insight into the changes introduced by the recently enacted America Invents Act. Mondy is available for 20-minute private and free sessions for startups.
Doug Adams is the Director of the Technology Commercialization Office at The City University of New York. He is experienced in commercializing early stage technologies and structuring creative, workable licenses that maximize the long term value of the intellectual property and bringing to market technologies for the benefit of society. He has a large rolodex of experienced entrepreneurs, industry contacts and investors that assist in the commercialization success. He can evaluate pre-patent and patented technologies and review for IP protection and commercial potential.
