Event description

Description

Walking through the isles of the grocery store can be daunting and dizzying. There are countless brands and variations of each type of food. Nutrition labels include words you cannot even pronounce, let alone know their purpose. Every box, can, and bag includes a health claim such as, "Gluten-Free," "Organic," "Low Sodium," "Low Fat," "A Good Source of Vitamin C," Etc. How do you really know what you are buying and whether it is good for you? Join me for a brief tour of Grocery Shopping 101. We will uncover the truth behind a variety of the popular health claims and labels. We will learn how to read nutrition labels. Finally, we will discuss some basic rules of thumb for shopping for optimal nutrition. This class is family-friendly; kids will be welcome and have opportunities for participation along with the rest of the class!
