About this Event

50% of the ticket proceeds help Money Talks Edu implement creative ways to empower children, families, and communities through financial literacy.

Our Story

After attending the National Small Business Association White House Briefing in 2013, Crystal Evans was inspired by the 44th United States President Barack Obama to implement creative ways to empower children, families, and communities through financial literacy.

During the last several years of research, Ms. Evans found that in urban communities, personal finance-focused curriculums are inaccessible, not well-publicized, and rarely funded federally by the U.S Department of Education.

With the advice of accredited educators, she launched Money Talks Edu for Children, a comprehensive and duplicable financial literacy curriculum that is currently hosted at Somerset Academy Early Learning Center in Philadelphia. The Money Talks Edu curriculum engages children to learn about money; the value of money, the use of money, and the importance of understanding money as an asset to use on their behalf. Thus, strengthening money management skills and financial decision-making capabilities in their adolescence years into their adulthood.

" Money Talks Edu's vision is to educate children about personal finance misconceptions that have caused long-term financial hardships, government dependencies, and generational poverty. We believe the understanding of financial planning and money management skills is essential to the success of future generations and their economic stability." Crystal Evans, Founder & President

Our leadership committee’s efforts have been recognized by U.S. Senator Patrick Toomey’s Administration, Pennsylvania State Representative Donna Bullock, and featured at Pennsylvania State Representative Joanna McClinton's Economic Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Seminars in the 191st Legislative District. Co-sponsors includes Somerset Academy of Southeastern Pennsylvania Early Childhood Coalition, the Centennial Parkside Community Development Corporation (CDC), More Than A Sport (MTAS) and Grim Philly.
