Grief Tending Ceremony

Join me for a free, in-person grief tending circle in honour of grief awareness week. At the heart of this event is the longing to provide a safe space for individuals to come together and be with each other in their grief. Christmas can be a tender time for anyone living with grief so this is an opportunity to be held in a warm, supportive space so that your grief can be heard, expressed and witnessed. All grief is welcome here.

This grief tending circle will offer a warm space to relax, share, reflect, and connect with others who are also grieving using the guiding tools of meditation, ritual, sound medicine, journalling and reiki.

Whether you are new to the terrain of grief or have carried grief for a long time, come and tend your heart in a warm, compassionate space.

If you have it available please bring a cushion, blanket, and an object to represent your grief (this could be a photo of your loved one, an object from nature or anything else which has sentiment)

Grief tending is a dedicated practice where an individual intentionally makes time and space for their grief.

Grief tending welcomes all forms of grief such as bereavement, anticipatory grief, collective grief (sorrows of the world), ecological grief and disenfranchised grief (grief which is not commonly acknowledged by society).

The word tend comes from the Latin word ‘tenere’ which means to extend, or to stretch towards something.

Grief tending is not about resolving or fixing our grief but about allowing ourselves to extend towards the land of loss, sorrow and grief.

Grief tending allows us to approach our grief with the same patience we might offer to a small child or a garden, it allows us to approach our sorrows with compassion and curiosity. Grief Tending circles often happen in community in a container of ritual, connection, embodiment and integration which is strong enough to hold all emotions which arise.

Tears move as freely as laughter and the pain can be witnessed without anyone trying to fix it.
