Event description

Description

Anyone who has experienced loss in their life knows that grief doesn’t take a summer vacation. Grief knows no season. When others expect us to be as bright as the summer sun, sometimes it would feel easier to just bury our heads in the sand and ignore the world. So, how do we cope in the season of family picnics, days at the lake, camping trips to our favorite places and watching friends soak up the sun… all while we’re mourning the loss of a loved one, a lifestyle, and experiences like these?

Join us for an evening of meaningful, real, and inspirational conversation with Kelly Grosklags and her special guest, Donna Mathiowetz. They will share insights and tips on how to walk through this summer season and how we can learn together to enjoy the small glimpses of sunshine around us.

This session is not just for those who are in the midst of illness or loss. It is also for those who want to learn more about how to support loved ones, congregations, and community members through losses.

All are welcome. Conversations with Kelly does have scholarships available for those in financial need. Please email us at cwkheals@yahoo.com. This is a CWK - Conversations With Kelly event. We thank the Hastings Arts Center and our Advisory Team members for bringing Kelly to this beautiful venue that touches the Southern/Eastern Metro & Western WI.

About Kelly Grosklags, LICSW, BCD, Fellow, American Academy of Grief Counseling

For nearly 25 years Kelly Grosklags dedicated her practice to minimizing suffering through her work in oncology, palliative care, and hospice. An experienced therapist and gifted speaker, Kelly created Conversations with Kelly as a public healing forum to broaden her reach as a psychotherapist, social worker and healer for patients and families.

Kelly frequently speaks about end-of-life care, and grief and loss issues at hospitals, clinical conferences, churches, funeral homes, and schools. Her passionate and supportive demeanor helps patients, caregivers, and health professionals connect with the wisdom of dying a good death, making life more meaningful, coping with depression and anxiety, transforming fear into hope and healing versus curing.

Kelly is a Board Certified Diplomat in clinical social work and earned a fellowship in grief counseling from the American Academy of Health Care Professionals. She earned a Master’s Degree in clinical social work from the University of St. Thomas/University of St. Catherine. Kelly has recently transitioned her practice to allow more time for her speaking and educational opportunities.

Kelly is the author of A Comforted Heart, a book of stories from cancer survivors and their caregivers about grief. Kelly resides Prior Lake, MN.

About Donna Mathiowetz, Author & Speaker

Donna is an inspirational speaker and author. She has been working in the arena of loss and grief since 1997 following the death of two teenage sons within two years. She and her husband, Dick, have been foster parents for four children from foreign countries with medical needs that weren’t available to them in their countries of origin. They adopted their son Brandon in 1995. Her passion to help others thrive as they rise to the challenges of changes in their lives comes from her own life experiences. When life presented a choice to become bitter or better, she and her husband, Dick, chose the latter. Her passion is to walk alongside those grieving, through inspiration, education, and support. Donna’s message is always heartfelt with a sincere desire to help her audience feel empowered by her words.

She most recently authored “A Journal for Your Journey…the trip without regard to the length of time it takes to navigate your loss and grief.” She also co-authored “Luck: When Preparation Meets Opportunity.”
