Grief Circle: Rituals of Renewal

Given several local tragedies this year alone and so many ongoing national and global social and political changes, we’re all carrying some degree of grief on a regular basis. In general, grief and loss tend to be common experiences during the holiday season. This Grief Circle offers a supportive space to hold our grief, so that we are more likely to join and perhaps even feel joy during celebratory events.

We are not meant to grieve alone. This Grief Circle encourages us to tend our grief and provides the supportive structure to hold each other’s pain as we grieve together in community. The agenda includes an embodiment practice, writing and sharing, and other activities designed to help us connect with each other, our surroundings, and our losses in a gentle way that cultivates the feelings of being held and cared for. We’ll end with a heart-warming group activity. Throughout the session, the ocean will guide our healing process and nurture us as we face our difficult emotions together.

Please bring a beach chair or blanket to sit on. Also, bring a small item that is meaningful to or representative of your grief, such as a photo, rock, shell, cloth, or figurine. You may place it on the communal shrine at the start and bring it back home with you. Dress in layers and bring anything else you might need to care for yourself, such as food or drink. In order to cultivate and maintain a safe emotional container, I request that you plan to attend the event in its entirety, so please arrive on time and plan to stay until the end.
