Event description

Description

It all started with a Buddhist and a bakery. In 1982, Greyston launched a trust-building, future-making, world-changing revolution. Since then we’ve been showing how putting trust in the potential of every human can be both good for business and good for the world. We call it Open Hiring®. With no questions asked, no resumes, no interviews, no background checks. We give people who want to work, an opportunity to do that by replacing scrutiny with trust.

Trust puts us all on the same side, working together. Trust grows between workers, families, and neighbors to help build resilient communities. This trust enables our bakery to produce world-class baked goods every year for a variety of companies including Ben & Jerry’s.

It’s a truly world-changing idea: giving more people access to jobs will lead to less poverty and less recidivism, and will build stronger communities and thriving individuals, in a more just world.

A revolution you can be part of! Come on a free tour of our bakery and learn about the rich and complex history of Yonkers and the founding of Greyston by Zen Master Bernie Glassman almost 40 years ago, as a social justice principal in action.
