Event description
A weekend woodwork course teaching beginners how to make their very own stool. The perfect gift or just a seat to sip your coffee.

About this Event

Over the space of two days, Keith, our resident woodworking guru, will carefully teach you the techniques and skills involved in the art of green woodwork. The result of this intensive two day workshop will be a beautiful handmade stool. There will be a chance to talk through the process before the tools get brought out to discuss personal preference and design with an opportunity to ask questions. These stools make gorgeous gifts, a perfect perch to sip your coffee on or simply great practise if you’re looking to develop your skills as a green woodworker.

You will build your stool from scratch using a variety of edge tools. Starting with a piece of freshly chopped wood, you will learn how to cleave the wood with froes and wedges, then move onto shape it on the shaving horse with drawknife and spokeshave. The legs of your stool will then be attached using wedged-tenons.

All timber supplied on this course is sourced sustainably from a forest in Wales. Keith personally travels to the forest and chooses an appropriate sized tree so as not to cause waste and brings it back for preparation. This course is suitable for all abilities whether your completely new to woodwork or have already completed one of our Introductory classes in the past.
