We are looking forward to all graduating classes from the High School to be represented by year, but also want to recognize that all of us are part of the Cardinal family, no matter what year we attended High School. This annual event is intended be a combined reunion of all the past graduating classes.
Patrick Mediate, the committee Chairmen and Teacher at GHS has lead a volunteer committee that includes six other GHS graduates who have been active professionals in the Town of Greenwich for many years.
Greenwich High School has maintained one of the best athletic programs across all sports in the country,” said Mr. Mediate. “We felt the time had come to honor the achievements of those athletes that had performed to the highest levels during their years at the school,” he added. “The field of possible athletes from which to choose was quite large but we do feel that the three we have chosen to be in our first class represent the highest curve of excellence which all three continued after they graduated,” he added. Mr. Mediate said that the committee will meet once every two years to select additional members from the ranks of Greenwich High School’s numerous sports programs, including coaches and entire teams.
Young, Merz and Bella, along with future inductees, will have their names inscribed on a Hall of Fame plaque which will be housed in the athletic wing at Greenwich High School.
Hopefully we will be able give the people in town, not just the kids, an understanding of the amazing things that have happened in Greenwich athletics," said Middle School Principal, Ralph Mayo, class of 1971. "Steve, Sue and Zeke -- they all fought to get where they are. There was a lot of hard work involved. They're all inspiring people."
