Join us as we celebrate Minority/Women Enterprise Development (MED) Week!

The Greensboro MED Week committee, comprised of representatives from The City of Greensboro, Guilford County, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T), The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), and Guilford County Schools (GCS) cordially invites you to attend our annual Greensboro Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week September 25-29, 2017.

MED Week began on the federal government level and is celebrated nationwide by municipalities and other public agencies. The purpose of MED Week is to provide business development opportunities to firms and celebrate the accomplishments of minority and women businesses enterprises (M/WBE) over the past year.

Activities are open to the public and most are free, see details below.


MED Week Shmoozpalooza Networking Event

  • Monday, September 25, 2017 ~ Proximity Hotel White Oak Room ~ 704 Green Valley Rd. Greensboro, NC ~ 6:00pm - 8:00pm ~ Come enjoy great food and amazing networking at the MED Week Shmoozapalooza! Take advantage of this opportunity to meet with other businesses and community partners; and don’t forget your business cards! This event is free and open to the public.

MED Week Business Expo

  • Tuesday, September 26, 2017 ~ Greensboro Coliseum Complex Special Event Center West Wing B ~ 1921 West Gate City Blvd, Greensboro, NC ~ 4pm - 7pm ~ Come meet local M/WBE firms who provide goods and services right here in the Greensboro community! While you are here, you will have the opportunity to attend information sessions for upcoming construction projects in the area. This event is free and open to the public.

MED Week Development Day Session 1 - Cash Flow Management & Record Keeping Hosted by Woodforest National Bank

  • Wednesday, September 27, 2017 ~ Greensboro Chamber of Commerce ~ 111 W. February One Place, Greensboro, NC ~ 9:30am - 12:00pm. ~ Cash Flow Management ~Don’t let the well run dry. Know and understand the purpose of cash flow management in a small business. Learn how the cash cycle can impact your flow and identify some ways to manage cash flow, including receivables and payables. Work more effectively with technical experts by providing them the information they need to help you. Recordkeeping - as a managerial tool ~ Ever lose an important piece of paper? Learn what to keep and how long to keep it as a best practice. Improve your overall recordkeeping practices by applying tricks and tools relevant to small business. Credit Reporting - demystified ~ What is a credit score and how does it impact you. As a small business owner, you need to know! After completing this module, the participants will be able to: Understand how credit reports are used in the underwriting of business loans. Apply common business practices and tools to help in proper credit reporting. Develop strategies to build or improve their business’ credit. Protect themselves from credit-related scams and know what to do if their business becomes a victim.

MED Week Development Day Session 2 - Soft Skills: Creating a Competitive Edge Hosted by East Greensboro NOW

February One Place, Greensboro, NC ~ 12:00pm - 1:00pm ~ Soft Skills: Creating a Competitive Edge ~ Aside from capital what makes certain businesses thrive while others struggle to survive? Entrepreneurs may know technical aspects of their business, but there is another element that truly makes the difference...Soft Skills ~ This event is free and open to the public; however, space is limited and registration is required. Lunch will be provided during this session. If more than one person from your organization plans to attend please register them individually.

MED Week Development Day Session 3 - Experience Downtown Greensboro Hosted by Downtown Greensboro Inc.

  • Wednesday, September 27, 2017 ~ Downtown Greensboro Inc. ~ 536 S. Elm St. ~ 1:15pm - 2:00pm ~ Curious about all the new businesses, restaurants and construction downtown? Wondering if the time is right to move or launch your business in the center city? Haven’t been downtown in a while and want to see what it’s all about? Participate in a downtown Greensboro walking tour where you will learn about the latest developments happening downtown. During the tour, hear how Downtown Greensboro Inc. assists new businesses, available spaces, and future plans for Greensboro. Tour is from 1:15-2pm. Meet at Downtown Greensboro, Inc.’s offices at 536 S Elm at 1pm. Walking shoes encouraged. This event is free and open to the public; however, space is limited and registration is required. MED Week Development Day Session 4 - Marketing & Sales Hosted by Greensboro Chamber of Commerce

  • Wednesday, September 27, 2017 ~ Greensboro Chamber of Commerce ~ 111 W. February One Place, Greensboro, NC ~ 2:00pm - 4:00pm ~ Attendees will have the opportunity to hear about the latest trends in marketing, how to make your message stand out and the importance of realizing that everyone at your company is in sales. The workshop will be facilitated by the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce. This event is free and open to the public; however, space is limited and registration is required. If more than one person from your organization plans to attend please register them individually.

MED Week Golf Tournament

  • Friday, September 29, 2017 ~ Gillespie Golf Course ~ 301 E. Florida St. Greensboro, NC ~ 9:00am - 12:00pm ~ Tickets must be purchased at the City of Greensboro MWBE Office 300 West Washington St. Plaza Level Room 149. Tickets are $35 per person, cash or check accepted. Payment must be received before a spot is reserved.
